As a Christian, you are familiar with the concept of tithing, which is the giving back a portion of your monetary income to God or basically to the church, but it sounds better if you say that you're giving it to God.  This amount has traditionally been thought to be ten percent of your income and if you are very dedicated, you will take your tithing out and set it aside before all your other monthly expenses are paid.  Churches are considered by law to be non-profit organizations, so they don't have to pay any income tax to the government because churches are tax exempt.  Because of this, many churches have done very well financially and have very expensive church buildings and pay their church clergy very well.  Think of all the things you could do with that money that you give to the church.  Think of the money you could save if you didn't have to pay taxes.  If you think about it, it's a pretty ingenious way to get money from superstitious people that still believe in an Almighty God in the sky somewhere!
